If you are looking for a TOP PRACTITIONER-look no further! Rowena Cua is AMAZING! Being both a medical professional and a professional athlete, I am very selective with the practitioners that I go to for treatment. I absolutely love John Barnes MFR and have had such profound results from the work. It is the most comprehensive, effective and powerful work that I have experienced. I HIGHLY recommend Rowena Cua. She is such an inspiration to me as well as being loving, kind, compassionate and just an absolute pleasure to be around. Rowena also takes great pride in sharing the amazing work of MFR with other practitioners, clients and to others. She also is continually taking further MFR seminars as well as devotes time to assisting in the seminars. When I travel to Vegas, one mandatory stop is to Body Resonance to see Rowena for an authentic, healing and amazing treatment. Thank you so much Rowena for all you do! Keep on inspiring!  Warmest Regards,
Krissy Chin PT, MSPT

I have two children who are polar opposites of each other. One is mellow, and the other is quite spirited. At the end of the day, one thing is for sure. MFR helps quiet their soul and unwind their minds. I've seen them go from uptight or high-strung to a much-needed calm within minutes just by a gentle rocking motion. This method is not just for adults, but for children as well.

The subtle energy of Myofascial release was the only thing that gave me immediate relief with lasting effects. When you worked on my knee Rowena, the gentle touch initially felt soothing superficially and then after a few minutes I started to feel the fascia move underneath the skin. I could feel the restricted, bound area being stretched and released without pain. I was relieved and immediately after treating me I felt noticeably improved range of motion, loss of swelling and significant pain reduction in the local area. Additionally, below and above the injury the muscles felt much better. As a patient I believe in this work first hand and you have inspired me to practice this in my work as a therapist myself to help others find relief that works and lasts..thank you love!!!!!

I had been hospitalized and diagnosed with pericarditis and pleurisy and after one year on medication and very limited activity, I was still in pain and felt like I could relapse at any given time. I had tried numerous therapies with no permanent relief and had researched MFR hoping to experience what others were saying it could do. I am from Canada and while I was traveling in Nevada I found an MFR therapist at Body Resonance Myofascial Wellness Center and booked several appointments for myself and my husband. I knew immediately after my first appointment this was exactly what I had been searching for. The issues were literally expelling from my tissues (and organs). After a series of testaments throughout the week, I was never the same again. I felt better than I had before my illness's. My husband's neck pain had also disappeared. Now here is the amazing part, because we were having these healing experiences, my daughter was planning to travel to Las Vegas to meet us with her 8 week old baby. He suffered from colic, digestive discomfort and was wearing his mother down as well as himself with no rest. We took him to Rowena at the clinic, and I had the divine experience and opportunity of being able to watch my Grandson unwind under the healing hands of this therapist. Right before my very (teary) eyes he transformed. Needless to say, he never looked back. He became the peaceful, healthy baby he was meant to be. Rowena showed us how to help him with  MFR at home and the rest of my daughter's trip was amazing.

Thank You Rowena!

FAQS

What can I expect from treatment sessions?

Myofascial release can be a beneficial treatment for individuals of all ages ranging from infancy and adolescence to adulthood and geriatric years. Pets and animals also respond well to treatment, as well.

Who can benefit from MFR?

Myofascial release can be a beneficial treatment for individuals of all ages ranging from infancy and adolescence to adulthood and geriatric years. Pets and animals also respond well to treatment, as well.

How long will it take before I can expect to feel and function better?

Every individual responds differently based on factors such as the duration and severity of medical history, current lifestyle, motivation levels, frequency/consistency of visits, and ability to maintain compliant with treatment sessions and given home stretching/home exercise regimens. You can speed your recovery time by maintaining compliancy, drinking plenty of water, eating right, getting rest, being accountable, and taking on an active role in your self-care.

How long are MFR treatment sessions?

Your very first session will consist of 90 minutes of treatment, including the evaluation. All follow-up treatment sessions are 60 minutes, but can also be scheduled for 90 or 120 minute time slots depending on your preference and availability. MFR treatment sessions can be followed by 30 minutes of physical therapy services consisting of core training, localized strengthening activities, balance, coordination, functional activity, work or sport-specific training as an additional option.

Can MFR harm me?

MFR can never injure or harm you, and is it never forceful. Your experienced therapist will always listen to and follow your body, as well as respect your feedback at all times.

What does it feel like when a fascial restriction is released?

Releases can feel like butter melting, taffy stretching, or softening imprints into clay. In areas that are extremely tight, it may feel like a mild rope or Indian burn, but will never be outside of your comfort level.

Why am I expected to drink plenty of water after treatment?

When restrictions are released through MFR, it is essential to flush toxins and replenish the fascia that was originally unable to get the adequate nutrients and hydration when restrictions existed. Drinking water restores the function of the fascia that has just been released.

What is Tissue Memory?

Tissue memory plays a large role in your healing process. It is involves the subconscious remembrance of every traumatic incident from being in utero to your present day – whether it’s physical, emotional, or mental trauma. As mentioned in our “Treatment Sessions” section, memories can become locked within the fascial system and can oftentimes manifest themselves in the physical pain that you feel. With the help of MFR, the physical and emotional content of any injury, literal or symbolic, may be addressed in a safe and gentle way and environment, thereby addressing pain on many levels.

What does MFR have to do with emotions?

Trauma does not have to be physical. Trauma can be in the form of emotional or mental abuse, loss, rejection, anger, guilt etc. Out of shame, anger, hurt, or fear, we’ve learned to bury emotions, which oftentimes manifest themselves in pain, dysfunction, or disease in the body. In referring back to tissue memory, your body will release and heal from whatever it needs to, when it needs to - as long as you learn to trust your body’s intuition. Sometimes an emotion or a memory will arise during treatment. Your therapist is trained to encourage you to feel through it and keep you safe amidst anything that may surface. This is necessary for healing on all levels.

What is a Healing Crisis?

After treatment sessions, you may feel a soreness similar to what you would feel after working out. After being misaligned and compensating for bodily imbalances for so long, your body grows accustomed to being off-kilter. With each treatment session, your body begins to open up and resume its proper alignment; it begins to reorganize and adapt to the changes. Because the body is used to being “off” for so long, it goes into panic mode as it shifts into proper alignment. This can mean that symptoms can intensify, moods can begin to change, and underlying or buried traumas or emotions may come to the surface. This is your body’s voice and way of telling you to hone in on what you’re currently feeling. Many people have suffered from pain for so long that they’ve learned to cope with numbing themselves out. MFR brings your awareness back to your entire body, a body which has learned avoidance through pain, medications, or other forms of addiction or distraction. The phrase “You must feel it to heal it” is a great explanation of the necessary means of completing what you’ve subconsciously learned to avoid. Everyone’s journeys are different, but the key is to stick with the process, allow yourself to feel and heal, and know that healing is never a straight, linear trend, but rather a line of ups and downs, and turns and corners. The general direction, however, is upward and for the better!

What are co-treatments?

Each MFR session is typically held with a single therapist, but can commonly be scheduled with two or more therapists who treat you simultaneously for more profound structural and energetic effects.

What are treatment intensives?

Treatment intensives involve getting treated daily for multiple sessions per day, in which the allotted period can range from consecutive days to consecutive weeks. This is a comprehensive treatment option that would aid very heavily in your healing process.

What is Cranio-sacral therapy?

Cranio-sacral therapy (CST) may be used by your therapist to help assist in the reduction of pain and improvement in your function. It is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating, treating, and enhancing the body's cranio-sacral system (the brain and spinal cord). This system is responsible for providing nutrients and for the elimination of waste products from these vital components of the central nervous system. If the cranio-sacral system is not functioning properly, you may experience pain, headaches, lethargy, TMJ problems, or dysfunction elsewhere in the body. CST falls under the umbrella of MFR.

What is the McKenzie Method?

The McKenzie approach is a system of mechanical evaluation and treatment consisting of repeated motions to help centralize pain. It can be highly effective in the management of spinal (back and neck) pain, particularly with pain that radiates into the extremities/hands and feet. It is used only upon certain evaluation findings.

What is Unwinding and Self-Unwinding?

Unwinding is a form of healing that allows your body to move spontaneously into positions of subconscious significance or through movements that assist in ridding pain and tension. When you learn how to feel and be present within your body, you will grow comfortable with allowing yourself to move through space that your body naturally falls into or calls for. This can consist of smooth flowing movement, slow or rapid movement, or anything else that your body intuitively needs at that specific point in time. Unwinding and Self-Unwinding can be done standing, sitting, or laying down.

What is Rebounding?

This is a rhythmic rocking of the body or body part which facilitates relaxation while gently mobilizing tight joints and connective tissues. It is using the body's fluid nature to erode powerful restrictions and to restore its natural fluid state. It also helps to release and rid the body of toxins that remain within restrictions. Rebounding falls under the umbrella of MFR.

About Us

How do traditional therapy and other forms of body work differ from what we do at Body Resonance?

mfr office

Body Resonance Myofascial Wellness Center, LLC is different from traditional physical therapy, massage, or chiropractic facilities because we address a significant and commonly overlooked head-to-toe system and structure of the body – the fascial system. In doing so, we address the root cause of the pain, not just the symptoms. By treating the actual root cause, symptoms can finally be eliminated. We use a holistic, whole body approach and perform strictly one-on-one treatments that produce effective and lasting results.

At Body Resonance, we look beyond the traditional methods of masking the pain or placing a superficial “band-aid” on areas that call for more than a temporary cover-up solution. Authentic healing and recovery is achieved by addressing your entire body's structural imbalances in addition to other underlying past emotional or physical traumas that are held within your tissue memory; only then will you be able to experience true, long-lasting effects that allow you to fully feel and function better, enabling you to return to the pain-free lifestyle you desire.

Our specialty in Myofascial Release (MFR) allows us to view each patient as a unique individual, and is particularly helpful in the treatment of both new and stubborn or chronic problems that have not been resolved by traditional methods. Our highly trained therapists use a multitude of manual techniques and movement therapy. We promote independence through education in postural awareness and proper body mechanics, self-treatment instruction, enhancement of strength, and improvement in flexibility and overall quality of life.

Our therapists have extensive training in MFR taught by John F. Barnes, PT, LMT, NCTMB, the leading authority on Myofascial Release, international lecturer, author, and acknowledged expert in the areas of physical and massage therapy since the 1960s, It is essential to be aware that there are many who advertise the use of MFR, but misleadingly practice an old, forceful, solely structural, and aggressive form of care. This old form does not follow the guidelines of the current holistic form of Myofascial Release as instructed by John F. Barnes. Therefore, it is important to seek an MFR therapist who specializes in the John F. Barnes approach for the ultimate whole mind-body care. This work is not simply considered “alternative” therapy; it is authentic therapy and the most natural, intuitive, and safest form of true healing on many levels. It is one of the most effective forms of treatment in healthcare today.
